Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of a six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 9-4 on Sunday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte.
Center fielder Mikie Mahtook continued his hot hitting and launched a two-run home run in the first inning on Sunday night to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead. Mahtook, who also homered twice on Saturday, is the team leader in home runs this season with 25.
The Knights added two more home runs in the game thanks to left fielder Zach Remillard and catcher Seby Zavala. Both Remillard and Zavala's home runs were solo shots. In all, the Knights had six hits on the night.
The team held a 4-4 tie into the eighth inning before the Bulls eventually took a lead with a five-run inning against the Charlotte bullpen. RHP Lane Ramsey (1-5, 6.97) was charged with all five runs in the inning and took the loss. The Knights won one of six games in the series against the Bulls.
Sunday's game also marked the end of the 2021 regular season. The Knights finished the 2021 season in seventh place with a 45-75 overall record.
The Knights will now have back-to-back off days before beginning "The Final Stretch" on Wednesday night against the Norfolk Tides from Truist Field. All 30 Triple-A teams will compete for a prize with a single 2021 Triple-A Final Stretch Winner crowned based on the highest overall winning percentage during the 10-game stretch. The Knights will play the first five games at Truist Field against the Norfolk Tides and the final five games in Memphis against the Memphis Redbirds.
First pitch on Wednesday night at Truist Field is set for 7:05 p.m. The Voice of the Knights Matt Swierad and Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
