TOLEDO - The Toledo Mud Hens fell to the Indianapolis Indians 2-5 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.

The pitching matchup consisted of Ashton Goudeau for the Mud Hens and Quinn Priester for the Indians.

The Indians got off to a quick start via a leadoff double from Canaan Smith-Njigba, who would be stranded after Goudeau pitched to three straight lineouts.

Parker Meadows would great Priester with a leadoff single before being erased on a double play the very next batter, followed by another groundout to end the first inning.

Goudeau would retire the first batter of the second inning before surrendering back-to-back solo home runs to the exact same part of the park to Cal Mitchell and Aaron Shackelford on back-to-back pitches, making the game 0-2. Goudeau would walk the next batter before stranding him after two flyouts ended the inning.

Priester would set down the Mud Hens quietly in the second inning on 12 pitches.

Goudeau would allow a leadoff single to Vinny Capra before he was erased trying to turn the single into a double, then followed a walk and a runner reaching on an error. Goudeau would strand both runners by retiring the next two.

Priester would come out and once again shut down the Mud Hens in the third inning, retiring the side on nine pitches.

Goudeau came back out for the fourth inning, which began with a leadoff single and back-to-back doubles, including an two-run double by Chavez Young. Young would later come around on a sacrifice fly by Capra, which put Indianapolis up 0-5. Goudeau would then get Ryan Vilade to flyout and end his evening. Goudeau would finish with 4.0 innings pitched, allowing five runs on seven hits (two home runs), two walks and one strikeout. Goudeau would be awarded the loss, falling to 1-2.

Tyler Nevin would reach on an error with two outs in the fourth inning before being stranded by Priester following a popout.

Layne Henderson would be the first Mud Hen to appear from the Hen Pen. Henderson would allow a one-out single to Malcom Nunez, before retiring both of the next two batters via the strikeout.

Priester would return for the fifth inning and allow a one-out single to Brendon Davis before getting the next two batters to lineout and popout to shortstop.

Henderson would return for the sixth inning and set the Indians down 1-2-3 in the inning, punctuated by a strikeout of Smith-Njigba. Henderson would finish his night with 2.0 innings pitched, allowing one hit and three strikeouts.

Priester came back out for the sixth inning, and would finish his outing by sending the Mud Hens down quietly yet again. Priester would finish his night with 6.0 innings pitched, allowing two hits and four strikeouts. Priester would pick up the win for his efforts, improving to 2-3 on the season.

Brendan White would be next from the Hen Pen in the seventh inning. White would allow back-to-back one-out singles before striking out Nunez and getting Mitchell to groundout to end the inning.

J.C. Flowers would be the first pitcher out of the Indianapolis bullpen to open the seventh inning. Flowers would allow a one-out single to Andre Lipcius before stranding him on the bases by retiring the next two batters. Flowers would end his night with 1.0 inning pitched, allowing one hit and one strikeout.

White would come back out for the eighth inning. Shackelford would greet him with a leadoff double, before White would retire the next three to strand Shackelford on third base. White would finish his night pitching 2.0 innings, allowing three hits and two strikeouts.

Eli Villalobos would be the next pitcher to appear from the Indianapolis bullpen to begin the eighth inning. Villalobos would allow a leadoff single to Jermaine Palacios, followed by a Michael Papierski walk and a John Valente single to load the bases. Parker Meadows would draw a bases loaded walk to bring home the Mud Hens' first run, putting the score at 1-5. Angel Perdomo would replace Villalobos to finish the inning. Perdomo struck out Justyn-Henry Malloy to begin his outing. Nevin would then drive in Papierski on a fielder's choice, making the score 2-5. Perdomo would then retire Lipcius to escape the jam. Villalobos would finish his night, facing four batters without recording an out, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. Perdomo would finish his night with 1.0 inning pitched with one strikeout.

Miguel Diaz would pitch the ninth inning for the Mud Hens. Diaz would allow a two-out single to Josh Palacios before striking out Nunez to finish the Indians for the evening. Diaz finished his night with 1.0 inning pitched, allowing one hit and two strikeouts.

Colin Selby would come in to get the save for the Indians in the ninth inning. Selby got Donny Sands to groundout and Davis to strikeout. Palacios would then draw a two-out walk before Papierski grounded out to end the game at 2-5. Selby claimed his first save of the season.
