Iowa Evens Series in Pitcher's Duel

Iowa Cubs News Release
COLUMBUS, OH - The Iowa Cubs (17-9) evened the series at one game apiece, winning game two of the series over the Columbus Clippers (13-15) by a score of 2-1, Thursday at Huntington Park.
The starting pitching matchup of top pitching prospects didn't disappoint, as both starters kept the opposing offense off the board through the first three innings. Jake Slaughter broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 1-0 Iowa.
That was the only run and hit the I-Cubs would manage against Gavin Williams, who spun five innings walking two batters while striking out five. On the other side, Ben Brown matched Williams, keeping the Clippers offense scoreless through five in his Triple-A debut.
Columbus finally cracked through in the sixth, as a two-out walk followed by an RBI double by Zack Collins tied the game and knocked Brown out. Iowa regained the lead in the eighth on their second hit of the game, an RBI double by Miles Mastrobuoni to go up 2-1.
Iowa would keep their one-run lead intact, as Cam Sanders and Manuel Rodriguez each spun scoreless innings to even the series at one game apiece.
POSTGAME NOTES:
Ben Brown spun 5.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and two walks in his Triple-A debut. The No. 7 ranked prospect in the Cubs' system struck out seven batters in the outing.
Iowa's 2-3 hitters recorded two of Iowa's four hits and drove in both of their runs.
Bailey Horn earned his first Triple-A victory with 1.1 perfect innings, while Manuel Rodriguez earned his team-leading fourth save of the year, striking out the side in the ninth.
Iowa and Columbus will play game three of their six-game series tomorrow, with first pitch from Huntington Park scheduled for 6:05 PM CT. You can listen to all Iowa Cubs games on Hope AM940 and stream them for free on the Bally Live App. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
