Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Syracuse, New York - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (14-14) used a steady stream of offense and a solid outing from Noah Skirrow to down the Syracuse Mets (14-15), 6-4, on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
DJ Stewart walloped his first of two homers of the night in the second inning to start the scoring, hitting a solo shot to put Syracuse up 1-0.
Jim Haley singled to start the third and then stole second. A Simon Muzziotti bunt single pushed him to third before Dustin Peterson tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
Jhailyn Ortiz started the fourth with a double and then Scott Kingery walked. Aramis Garcia then ripped a single to score Ortiz and put Lehigh Valley up 2-1.
Weston Wilson stroked a two-run homer in the fifth, his sixth of the season, to put the IronPigs up 4-1.
The Mets scraped back two runs though, scoring in the fifth on a Ronny Mauricio sacrifice fly and then again in the sixth on Stewart's second solo homer, his fourth of the season.
The IronPigs re-extended their lead out to three with a run in the seventh on a Garcia RBI fielder's choice and another tally on an Ortiz RBI single in the eighth.
Jaylin Davis brought the Mets back to within two with an RBI double in the eighth, but Erich Uelman (S, 1) set the side down in order, wrapping the game with a strikeout to secure the 6-4 win for the IronPigs.
Skirrow (3-0) twirled six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, striking out two to pick up the win for the IronPigs.
David Peterson (0-1) took the loss for the Mets, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks, striking out four.
