Mavs' Goaltender Nolan Named Finalist for Two CHL Awards Including MVP
March 11, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Missouri Mavericks' goaltender Robby Nolan was named finalist for two of the Central Hockey League's (CHL) year-end awards Friday afternoon. Nolan is the only goaltender named as a finalist for the CHL's Most Valuable Player award, and he was also named a finalist for the Most Outstanding Goaltender award. The goaltender is also the only player in the CHL to be named a finalist in two different categories.
"Without question, my vote would go to Robby Nolan for MVP," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "He is the backbone of the team this year and he is a big reason the Mavericks are in the running for the top spot in the Turner Conference."
The 2010-11 CHL Most Valuable Player candidates also include Rapid City forward Ryan Menei, Colorado forward Riley Nelson, Odessa forward Sebastien Thinel (2009 CHL MVP) and Allen forward Colton Yellow Horn.
The finalists for the Most Outstanding Goaltender Award (Scott Brower Award) include Rapid City's Danny Battochio (2010 CHL Rookie of the Year), Quad City's David Brown, Dayton's Jeff Jakaitis and Colorado's Kyle Jones.
Nolan is 23-11-5 on the season and is in the top 5 in nearly every major goaltending category. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native leads the CHL with a 2.08 goals-against average and his six shutouts are the most in the league. Nolan ranks third with a .928 save percentage and he is tied for third with 23 wins. Nolan was also recently named Most Outstanding Goaltender in the CHL's annual Best of the Best Poll.
The Mavericks are currently on a three-game road trip and play in south Texas for a pair of games this weekend. The team will return from south Texas for their Playoff Launch Party on Monday, March 14 before heading to Bloomington for a game on Wednesday, March 16 against the PrairieThunder. Missouri will return home for a four-game home stand where they will face the Wichita Thunder on March 18 and 19, the Mississippi RiverKings on March 20 and wrap up the home schedule against the Thunder on March 22.
