
Bees Fall 5-4 Despite Third Period Rally

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (23-30-6) fell 5-4 to the Arizona Sundogs (24-27-9) after a wild third period saw the Bees come close to erasing a four goal deficit. The Sundogs opened a four-goal lead after the first two periods that began to disappear in the third as the Bees rallied for four goals.
Much like the two teams game on Wednesday the Arizona Sundogs opened a 2-0 lead in the first period. Adam Smyth got the Sundogs on the board at 8:45 of the first with a slap shot from the boards that just clipped the inside of the far side post to find the back of the net.
The Sundogs would increase their lead to two goals as Kyle Hood ripped a shot from the point while on the power-play which was deflected by Jason Visser in front past Bees goalie Jerad Kaufmann.
Arizona would net another pair of goals in the second period as Kyle Hood scored at 11:24. Tyler Butler and Matt Frick picked up the assists on the rebound goal.
The âDogs scored their fourth of the night while playing a man down, Corey Laurysen and Jamie VanderVeeken came in on a two-on-one, VanderVeeken fed the puck to Laurysen who one-timed it into the open net.
Despite trailing by four the Killer Bees were outshooting the Sundogs by a 22-20 mark through two periods of play.
The Killer Bees would launch into rally mode for the third period scoring four goals, however a Jason Visser strike at 13:14 of the third would prove to be the game winner.
The Bees first goal of the game was scored by Tomas Klempa at the 6:33 mark with Aaron Lewicki and Tyler Lehrke picking up the assts.
At 9:48 of the third the Bees would cut the lead to two goals as Brett Wilson scored after a pass from Nick Sucharksi and Brandon Smith. For Wilson it is his 13th goal of the season.
Bo Cheesman has an opportunity to cut the lead to one goal after he was awarded a penalty shot with 8:52 remaining but Cheesman was not able to convert on the opportunity.
The game winning goal would be scored by Arizona at the 13:14 mark as Jason Visser netted his second of the game, this one a slap shot from just inside the slot that beat Kaufmann blocker side.
The Bees would score two more goals before the final horn would sound as linemates Darcy Campbell and DominIc D'Amour each scored. Campbell's goal came from the point while D'Amour ripped a beautiful top corner shot from the top of the circles.
D'Amour's goal came with 1:03 remaining in the game. After the goal the Bees would pull Jerad Kaufmann but were unable to score before being whistled for a pair of penalties at 19:41 of the third period.
