Mallards' Brown a Finalist for CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender Award

MOLINE, Ill. (March 11, 2011)- The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced in conjunction with the CHL that Mallards goaltender David Brown has been named a finalist for the league's 2010-11 Most Outstanding Goaltender Award.

Brown, 26, leads the CHL in save percentage (.931), ranks second in goals against average (2.26) and is tied for third in shutouts (3). The Stoney Creek, Ontario native has gone 16-14-1 in 34 games with the Mallards and has been called up to the American Hockey League on four separate occasions this season.

The 6' 0", 185-pound Brown has played in five straight games since returning to the Mallards from the AHL's Toronto Marlies earlier this month. In his most recent outing, he made 23 saves in a 5-2 win Sunday in Bloomington as the Mallards clinched a playoff berth.

Brown is one five Most Outstanding Goaltender finalists along with Rapid City's Danny Battochio, Dayton's Jeff Jakaitis, Colorado's Kyle Jones and Missouri's Rob Nolan. Finalists for Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Defenseman and Rookie of the Year were also announced today. Award candidates were nominated by CHL clubs and finalists were chosen by the CHL office. Awards will be voted on by CHL head coaches, team communications departments and media members.

The Mallards return to action tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Evansville IceMen. All fans attending tonight's game will receive free Mallards posters courtesy of Fox 18, Q106.5 and The Dispatch & The Rock Island Argus.
