Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, IL - David Brown made 36 saves while posting his fourth shutout of the season and Zac Pearson provided a pair of goals- including one of two the Quad City Mallards scored shorthanded- as the host Mallards blanked the Evansville IceMen 5-0 Friday night.
Pearson put the game beyond Evansville's reach by scoring back-to-back goals in the third period. He buried a rebound to stretch what had been a two-goal Quad City lead to 3-0 at 2:48 of the third. Evansville was on the power play when Pearson scored the fourth Mallard goal from the top of the left wing circle at the 7:17 mark. Quad City was again down a man when Brandon Marino capped off the win by converting a Mike McLean (three assists) centering pass on a two-on-one rush with just less than seven minutes remaining.
Earlier in the evening, the Mallards had gotten off to a start that was nearly as impressive as their furious finish. Obi Aduba pounced on a rebound for the first goal of the night just over three minutes into the first period. Quad City was on the power play when Tyler Shelast shoveled home the Mallards' second from the low slot at 10:22 of the first.
Brown was at his best while stopping 20 Evansville shots in the second period and setting the stage for the Mallards to pull away with three third period goals.
The Mallards return to action at home tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Mississippi RiverKings. The first 1,000 fans ages 12 and under through the doors for tomorrow evening's game will receive free Mallards black youth replica jerseys courtesy of Fox 18 and WLLR.
