March 11, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Allen Americans News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas- The Allen Americans out-lasted, and out-gunned a very determined Texas brahmas club, 9-6 in front of 2,146 at the NYTEX Sports Centre. With the victory, the Americans move to within one point of clinching the regular season Berry Conference title, and four points of clinching the best regular season record in the CHL.
The Americans struck first, when Colton Yellow Horn manipulated home a rebound chance off of a Nino Musitelli shot, just 35 seconds into the contest.
Texas answered back immediately with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead over the Americans. Sean Muncy's first goal with the Brahmas just over a minute after the Yellow Horn goal got the home team on the board. Muncy tipped home a point shot from Nathan Saunders to beat Chris Whitley and tie the game at one.
Jason Krischuk scored for the Brahmas five minutes later, on a slick backdoor pass from Chad Woollard for a 2-1 lead.
Allen answered back in the closing seconds of the first stanza, with a Nino Musitelli blast from the half-wall, which beat Wayne Savage to the far post just over the pad.
The second period was full of offense for both sides. Sean Muncy gave the Brahmas a 3-2 lead four minutes into the frame with a tap in goal from Callin Wild. Alex Curran made it 4-2 with a backhander from the left face-off circle over the glove hand of Whitley.
Dave Nimmo buried a power play wrister at 10:01 to get the Americans back to within one, but was answered quickly by Mick Lawrence, who gave the Brahmas back their two goal lead.
Late in the period the Americans took over. Bruce Graham at 13:30 brought Allen back to within one, barging to the net and slipping one by Savage's pad. Graham would score again just over three minutes later with a wrister from the slot which alluded Savage and slid over the goal line to tie the game at 5.
When it looked like the game was going to head to the third tied at 5, Nino Musitelli fired a blast just under the bar on the blocker side of Savage to give the Americans a 6-5 lead heading into the final period.
Ross Rouleau tied the game up at 6, 6:23 into the third stanza, but that was all the offense that Texas would muster the rest of the way. Whitley held on for a strong 13 save performance in the period to keep the Brahmas at bay.
At the other end, the Americans kept their foot on the gas, en route to a victory. Liam Huculak scored what would be the game winning tally, banging home a rebound at 7:24 to make it 7-6 Allen.
Judd Blackwater blasted home a power play goal at 17:11 to give the Americans a two-goal cushion.
Then with Savage pulled, CHL MVP finalist Colton Yellow Horn buried an empty net goal to make it 9-6 and salt the game away.
Allen will return to the Allen Event Center Saturday night to face the Wichita Thunder for â70s night. The puck will drop at 7:30 PM, and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a koozie, courtesy of Dr. Ross J. Miller. Sunday afternoon, the Americans will host the Bloomington PrairieThunder at 2:00 PM. For ticket information, visit www.allenamericans.com or call 972-912-1000.
