Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks and Rapid City Rush battled through sixty-five minutes of hockey, carrying a game tied at two through to a shootout decision on Friday night, with the home team eventually falling by a score of 3-2 to the Rush at Independence Events Center. Missouri net minder, Josh Robinson, made 27 saves for the Mavs through regulation and overtime during their Military Appreciation Night game.
The Rush struck first at 10:33 of the opening period when Jesse Schultz was awarded a goal which was initially waived off by the officials. Kevin Harvey and Jonathan Narbonne were credited with the assists on Schultz's twenty-sixth goal of the season.
Missouri made their move to tie the game in the second period when Geordie Wudrick sniped a one-timer from the point to the back of the Rapid City net off a perfect feed from teammate Jack Downing at 2:40. John-Scott Dickson then expanded the Mavericks lead 2-1 over the Rush at 7:47 on the power play with the help of Jared Brown and Patch Alber. Rapid City's Cody Ferriero had the equalizer goal lined up for the Rush at 13:52 with his own power play lamp-lighter. Schultz and former Mavs defenseman Dallas Ehrhardt were credited with the assists on the game-tying goal.
When neither side could edge the other through the final twenty minutes of regulation, the game decision headed to extra time, where yet again, the score remained tied 2-2.
Mavericks forward Lindsay Sparks kicked the shootout off in favor of the home team with a quick shot past Rush goaltender Danny Battochio, but it would be the only goal for Missouri in the five-round shootout. Both Cody Ferriero and Kale Kerbashian bested Robinson for the extra point and 3-2 Rush victory.
The Mavericks play their next game on Sunday night at 4:05pm (CST) against the Rapid City Rush at Independence Events Center for "Faith & Family Night" featuring a post-game skate with the team and a special concert with "Break the Fall."
Tickets are available online at TicketMaster.com and in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center. Sunday is a Family 4-Pack Game! 4 tickets, 4 hotdogs, 4 Pepsi products, and 1 Red Robin appetizer starting at just $84!
