EVANSVILLE, IN - In the ninth of ten head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel defeated the Evansville IceMen in a shootout on Friday at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana by a final score of 5-4. With the win, the Fuel's fifth straight victory, Indy improved to 24-23-4-4 overall this season and with 56 points, remain alone in fifth place in the ECHL's North Division standings, just one point shy of playoff position.

The Fuel stormed out to a 2-0 lead early in Saturday's game thanks to back-to-back scores from Kyle Stroh and Nick Jones at 7:31 and 10:13 of the opening period. After an Evansville response from Peter Sakaris drew the IceMen within a goal at 12:52, The Fuel potted two more opening frame tallies, from Matt White at 15:01 and Mike Duco at 17:01 respectively, to take a 4-1 lead through one period of play.

The IceMen kept hope alive with the second period's only score, a Brandon Martell marker at 18:55, and in the third, the IceMen forced overtime with Sakaris' second of the game at 5:23 and Zach Currie's fifth of the season at 10:36. After a scoreless extra session, Indy and Evansville scrapped to an eight-round shootout with the Fuel receiving goals from Nicklas Lindberg and Garett Bembridge in the third and fifth rounds before Pete Massar lifted Indy into victory lane with an eighth-round conversion.

Shane Owen earned the win in net for the Fuel by virtue of a 41-save performance and a six-of-eight showing in the shootout, while Chris Drieger, who entered the game at the start of the second period in relief of Evansville starter Brandon Komm, took the loss for the IceMen despite stopping 19 shots in 45 minutes of game-play. With Friday's win, Indy extended their league-wide season long road point streak to 14 games and claimed their sixth consecutive victory over the IceMen in the two teams' head-to-head season series.
