Published on August 7, 2007 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release
A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced today their 80 game regular season schedule which begins on Saturday, October 6 at Ricoh Coliseum versus the Rochester Americans - AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres & Florida Panthers - at 4:30 p.m. The Marlies will play at home on all but two occasions in the month of October as the team plays seven of their first eight contests on home-ice.
Weekend games dominate the Marlies' home schedule this season as the team will play 32 of their 40 home games on weekend dates. This figure rises by two games from last season's total of 30 weekend dates. The home schedule predominantly features Saturday games, which will include twelve 4 p.m. games, two 4:30 p.m. starts and an additional five Saturday evening games, four of which will begin at 7 p.m. with a lone 8 p.m. puck-drop on October 27 versus the Calder Cup champion Hamilton Bulldogs. The Marlies will also play 13 Sunday home games, all of which will commence at 4 p.m. Remaining home games are comprised of seven games on Wednesdays and one game on Thursday. All weekday games begin at 7:30 p.m. with the lone exception being the Marlies' inaugural regular season school day game on November 28 versus Grand Rapids at 11:30 a.m.
The Marlies' longest road trip of the season will take place in January. The eight-game trip will see the club face seven of eight West Division opponents as the club visits Milwaukee, Rockford, Chicago, Iowa, Quad City, Houston and San Antonio between January 10 - 20. The trip will conclude on Friday, January 25 when the Marlies visit Utica, NY to take-on the Binghamton Senators. The team has four season-high four-game homestands which begin in October, November, December and February respectively.
The Marlies will face a league high 19 of 28 possible opponents in 2007-08, including defending champion Hamilton - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - as they make their first of six visits to Toronto on Saturday, October 27. The Marlies travel to Hamilton for the first time on Friday, November 23. The Marlies host the Hartford Wolf Pack - AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers - and the Albany River Rats - AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes - for the first time in their history on October 21 and December 30 respectively. Both games will begin at 4 p.m. Toronto will also oppose each of the league's three new franchises as Lake Erie (October 12, November 21, November 30 & March 30), Rockford (November 18) and Quad City (January 26) join the AHL for the league's 72nd season.
The Marlies will close-out the 2007-08 schedule by hosting Rochester on Saturday, April 12 and Manitoba on Sunday, April 13 at Ricoh Coliseum.
