Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans open their 52nd season in the American Hockey League against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, October 5th at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.

Rochester (48-30-1-1, 98 points) enters the season after a second-place finish in the North Division in 2006-07. The Amerks also advanced to the Calder Cup Playoffs, but were eliminated by the eventual champion Hamilton Bulldogs in six games. Rochester's trip to the North Division Semifinals was its 17th playoff appearance in the last 18 years.

In 2007-08, the Amerks will remain in the Western Conference's North Division. The division, however, has expanded to seven teams and now includes Rochester, Syracuse, Hamilton, Manitoba, Grand Rapids, Toronto and the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland.

This season, fans will have a chance to watch 18 of the league's 29 teams at The Blue Cross Arena. Three of those clubs will make their first trips to Rochester. The Rockford IceHogs make their inaugural trip to The Blue Cross Arena on Friday, November 16th. The Lake Erie Monsters then slither onto the banks of the Genesee River on Friday, November 23rd. Fans, however, will have to wait until Wednesday, January 23rd to see the Quad City Flames, the newest affiliate of the Calgary Flames.

The Amerks will also host the 2007 Calder Cup champion Hamilton Bulldogs during the first weekend of the season. Rochester welcomes one of its fiercest rivals on Sunday, October 7th. Another game of interest is a road contest on Thanksgiving (November 22nd) against the Binghamton Senators.

Rochester's busiest months this season are December, January and March as the Amerks play 13 games each month, which makes up nearly half of their entire 80-game slate. The craziest home schedule is in February with Rochester spending eight of its 10 games at home. The month features homestands of three and four games.

The longest road trip of the season takes Rochester to San Antonio, Houston, Syracuse, Binghamton and Cleveland from March 7th to March 20th. That month the Amerks play eight games away from home. The most road games are in January with Rochester playing nine of its 13 games on the road. That stretch also includes two-game sets in Grand Rapids and Manitoba.
