Moose Announce 2007-08 Regular Season Schedule
Published on August 7, 2007 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
Today, the Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, released their 2007-08 regular season schedule.
For the first time since 2003 and only the third time in their seven-year AHL history, the Moose will open the season on home-ice at the MTS Centre. Their first opponent will feature a two-game series against the Grand Rapids Griffins on October 11th and 13th at 7:30 p.m., followed by a two-game visit from the Rochester Americans on October 16th and 17th. The Moose will then open their 2007-08 road schedule with a third straight game versus the Americans, this time at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester on Friday, October 19th. This game also marks the beginning of the team's first "three-games-in-three-nights" series. The Moose will play five such series of games in 2007-08.
For the seventh consecutive season, the Moose schedule includes dates versus the defending Calder Cup champion. The Moose will face the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal), as well as four of the other five divisional rivals eight times each in 2007-08 - Grand Rapids (Detroit), Rochester (Buffalo), Toronto (Toronto), as well as the new Lake Erie Monsters (Colorado). The Moose will face their other North Division opponent - the Syracuse Crunch (Columbus) - only four times this year.
Manitoba will play each member of the West Division four times each. This list includes Chicago (Atlanta), Houston (Minnesota), Iowa (Dallas), Milwaukee (Nashville), Peoria (St. Louis), San Antonio (Phoenix), as well as new West Division members, the Quad City Flames (Calgary) and the Rockford IceHogs (Chicago). This season, the Moose will play only one team from the Eastern Conference in the Hershey Bears (Washington) whom they will meet four times. Once again, the Calder Cup playoff format for the Western Conference features a cross-over format which means if the fifth-place team in the West Division finishes with more points than the fourth-place team in the North Division, it would cross over and compete in the North Division playoffs.
Manitoba's home schedule this season once again includes a pair of Sunday matinee affairs. Those games will begin at 2:00 p.m., while the Lake Erie Monsters will visit the MTS Centre for Manitoba's annual New Year's Eve contest on Monday, December 31st at 4:00 p.m. The Monsters and Moose will also clash in a New Years Day game at the MTS Centre at 7:30 p.m.
This season, due to travel accommodations which will break up a block of road games, the Moose will embark on essentially 12 road trips. Overall, the Moose will enjoy 10 homestands this year. Manitoba's busiest month this year is February when the team will play 16 games in 29 days.
