Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, today released their 80-game schedule for the 2007-08 regular season. The Phantoms 12th campaign in the AHL will begin on Friday, October 5 when they play host to the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 at the Wachovia Spectrum.

Thirty-four of the Phantoms 40 home games will be played on weekend dates. Twenty games will be played on Friday nights, with two taking place on Saturday nights and 12 beginning early on Sunday evenings. Included in the six weekday games are the Wednesday, November 14 School Day Game at 11:00 AM and a President's Day special against Albany on Monday, February 18 at 4:05 PM. The Phantoms will also host three Tuesday games and one additional Wednesday contest.

"This is a exciting time for us every year," remarked Phantoms Chief Operating Officer Frank Miceli. "The release of our schedule finally gives us a tangible sign that the hockey season is right around the corner. Once again, the schedule makers have been great to Phantoms fans with 34 weekend dates, and we really look forward to Opening Night on October 5."

Phantoms fans will have several great opportunities to see the team right out of the gate, with seven of the squad's nine October games being played at home in the Wachovia Spectrum. The club will spread its next 10 home dates over the months of November and December, and will come back after the holidays with the final 23 home games fairly evenly spread over the last four months of the season.

In addition to the October 5th season opener, the initial weekend of the season includes the first of 10 scheduled games against the rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday, October 7 at 5:05. Other highlights of the season include the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 23, when the Phantoms will take part in an organizational doubleheader at the Wachovia Center. The Flyers will play their traditional Black Friday afternoon game at 1:00 against the Washington Captials, which will be followed by the Phantoms and the Hershey Bears - Washington's AHL affiliate - at 7:05. The clash with Hershey will be the first of a dozen this season between the two clubs.

Phantoms fans will see some new faces in town this season. The expansion Lake Erie Monsters of Cleveland, Ohio, the new primary affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, will visit the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday, January 11. On Friday, February 1, the second-year Worcester Sharks, the primary affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, will play their first game in Philadelphia.

The main component of Philadelphia's road schedule is the 21 games that will be played at opposing arenas on Saturday nights. The Phantoms will play away from home on seven Fridays and five Sundays, and a total of seven road games will be played on weeknights.

The Phantoms longest road trip this season in terms of games will be a five-game span that will take the club to Binghamton for a pair of games, and then to Springfield, Manchester and Providence. It's part of a February that will see the club play seven of nine games on the road over the first half of the month. The team will not play more than three consecutive games at home this season, and that phenomenon only happens three times.

The furthest trip in terms of distance for the club is a 1,014-mile spin that will take the Phantoms to Hamilton, Cleveland and Toronto the weekend of Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. Over the weekend of Nov. 2-4, Philadelphia will travel 358 miles to Portland and then hit Worcester and Lowell on the way back home, for a round-trip total of 789 miles.

As was the case a year ago, late-season games will be crucial for the Phantoms. In a 27-game stretch from February 15 until the end of the season on April 13, 22 of those games will be against opponents from within the East Division, which includes the Phantoms, Hershey, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Norfolk, Bridgeport, Albany and Binghamton. Thirteen of those games will be played consecutively from Feb. 15 to March 15. The entire seven-game slate in the month of April will also be played against divisional opponents.

Start times are 7:05 Monday through Saturday and 5:05 on Sunday. Exceptions are Sunday, Oct. 14 (6:05 PM), Wednesday, Nov. 14 (11:00 AM), and Monday, Feb. 18 (4:05 PM). All home games will be played at the Wachovia Spectrum except for the Friday, Nov. 23 game at the Wachovia Center.
