Luis Rijo activated from 7-day Injured List
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Luis Rijo has been activated from the 7-day injured list and LHP J.T. Perez has been assigned to Elizabethton. Brian Maloney, Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the moves.
Rijo was placed on the injured list back on May 25th. He has made seven starts for the Kernels this season, posting a 1-4 record and 3.47 ERA. In 36.1 IP, he allowed 36 hits and 24 runs (14 earned) with 14 walks and 30 strikeouts. He was acquired by the Twins in a 2018 trade with the Yankees for Lance Lynn.
Perez joined the Kernels on June 9th and appeared in one game, working two scoreless innings with two walks and one strikeout. He was selected by the Twins in the 29th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Cincinnati.
Rijo is active and available and scheduled to be the starting pitcher for tonight's 6:35 PM game with Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with three players on the injured list.
