Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Vejigantes were defeated by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 2-1 on Friday evening. Ender Inciarte hit his third home run of the season to supply the only tally for SWB.
The IronPigs loaded the bases with no outs in the first against Vejigantes starter Ken Waldichuk. However, Waldichuk limited the damage by inducing a double-play groundout to give up just one run. Waldichuk settled in after that and pitched five innings of one-run ball with five punchouts in his third Scranton/Wilkes-Barre start.
SWB got on the board in the fifth against IronPigs starter Ricardo Sánchez. Ender Inciarte hit his third home run of the season to right field to tie the game at one. It was the first big fly for Inciarte since hitting two out in Syracuse on April 8. Sánchez allowed one run over five innings with a season-high seven strikeouts.
Lehigh Valley retook the lead in the seventh after Yairo Muñoz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Vejigantes then threatened with the bases loaded and one out in their half of the eighth, but could not plate the tying run. José Peraza finished 2-for-4 in the loss and is now 4-for-8 this series.
Corey Oswalt (4-1) earned the victory out of Lehigh Valley's bullpen. Mark Appel (3) logged his third save. Michael Gomez (1-3) was saddled with the loss for SWB after allowing one run in an inning of relief.
The two teams conclude their six-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. It's Sunday Family FunDay. Kids can play catch on the field from noon until 12:20 PM, get $2 Dippin Dots and Mamita's Ices all game long and can run the bases after the final out, presented by Geisinger and Q92. Tickets are available at swbrailriders.com.
