DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (24-27) lost their second consecutive extra-inning game to the St. Paul Saints (23-28) by a score of 8-7, Friday at Principal Park.

St. Paul took an early lead in the first inning, when Roy Morales knocked in Jake Cave who had tripled. The two teams went back-and-forth for the middle innings, scoring in every inning until the seventh.

Greg Deichmann tied the game with an RBI single in the second, but St. Paul got home runs from Elliot Soto and Alex Kirilloff to regain the lead. Nelson Maldonado got Iowa within a run with an RBI single, but Michael Helman clubbed a two-run shot to extend the Saints lead to 5-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, Deichmann hit his third home run in as many games to bring Iowa back within two. Kirilloff used an RBI double to drive in a sixth run for St. Paul, but once again, the I-Cubs fought back.

They scored two runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth highlighted by a two-run blast from John Hicks, giving Iowa their first lead of the game. Relievers Conner Menez, Dakota Mekkes and Wyatt Short kept St. Paul off the board through the eighth, combining to 3.2 scoreless frames.

The three allowed just one hit while striking out three, keeping Iowa's 7-6 lead intact until the ninth, when Morales drove in Kirilloff with an RBI double to tie the game. The Saints added an eighth run in extras and ended the game with a double play to get Trent Giambrone out at the plate.
