Augusta Lynx News Release

Martin Lapointe scored a pair of goals while newcomer B.J. Gaustad recorded a goal and two assists as the Augusta Lynx downed the Columbia Inferno 5-3 at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center on Saturday night.

Lapointe opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker at 9:23 of the first period from Colt King and Sam Ftorek, keeping an Inferno defender at bay while wristing a shot past Chris Houle for a 1-0 Lynx lead. Leon Hayward would respond for Columbia to tie the game at 16:55 from Brandon Nolan and Travis Lisabeth.

In the second period, the Lynx pulled ahead 4-2 on goals by Ryan Lang, Lapointe's second of the night on the power play, and Paul Kelly. Nolan managed a late goal with a good individual effort, breaking down the right wing and outworking the Lynx defense while beating goaltender Mike Wall on the short side at 17:36.

After notching a pair of assists in the second period, Gaustad would score his first goal as a Lynx when he took a feed from Lang and beat a diving Houle to make it 5-2 Augusta at 3:26 of the third period. Lisabeth would pull the Inferno within 5-3 at 12:18, but they would get no closer as Augusta sewed up the victory.

Wall earned the win in his first ECHL start with 21 saves, while the loss was pinned on Houle with 20 stops. Augusta finished 1-for-5 on the power play while the Inferno ended the evening 0-for-6.

The Lynx are back in action Sunday with a 4:05 pm matinee contest against the Greenville Grrrowl on Bring Your Own Bell night with the Salvation Army. Tickets are on sale now for $15, $14, and $11 through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, and through all TicketMaster locations.
