ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (11-6-0) upended the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-2 on Saturday night from Germain Arena to win their eighth straight home game. With the win the Everblades find themselves in a first place tie in the South Division.
After a scoreless first period, The Everblades found the back of the net 6:31 into the second period when Paul Cabana notched his 8th goal of the season after wristing a shot past Gwinnett goaltender Sean Fields. The lead was short-lived however as the Gladiators tallied just 30 seconds later when Guillaume Desbiens beat Everblades net-minder Phil Osaer at 7:01. Florida took the lead for good when Bogdan Rudenko scored the first of his two goals with 4:36 remaining in the period.
Leading by one entering the third period, the 'Blades exploded for three goals in the first 12 minutes of the third period to take a 5-1 advantage. Rudenko's second goal of the night came 4:37 into the final period giving the 'Blades a two-goal lead and Chris Lee opened a three-goal advantage for Florida when he notched his third goal of the season at 10:09. Jonathan Lehun finished the scoring for the Everblades when a pass bounced off his body and trickled across the goal line for a power play goal at 11:54. Gwinnett closed out the scoring for the night with a goal from Jim Sharrow just 22 seconds after Lehun's goal.
Osaer increased his record to 6-2-0 after turning away 31 of 33 Gwinnett shots, while Fields suffered his second straight loss to fall to 8-4-1 after allowing five goals on 46 Florida shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-for-3, while the Gladiators failed to convert on any of their four power play chances.
The win for the Everblades evened the season series with Gwinnett at two wins apiece.
