Alaska Aces News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Alaska Aces snapped a scoreless tie with four goals in a span of 5:52 midway through the second period and held on for a 5-2 victory over the Ice Dogs Saturday at Long Beach Arena.

Alaska out-shot Long Beach 12-9 in a scoreless first period but finally broke through in the second through determined work on the forecheck. Barrett Heisten came off the end boards with a pass to Cam Keith, who lifted the puck over Ice Dogs starter Greg Hewitt for his second goal in as many nights and his seventh of the season. 70 seconds later, Justin Maiser won a face-off and moved in front of Hewitt, creating traffic for Patrick Wellar, who blasted a slap shot past the screened goaltender for his first goal of the year.

Alex Leavitt continued the onslaught with a virtual tap-in of a Chris Minard rebound on a power play at 11:14 for a 3-0 lead. Minard, who had been held without a point in each of Alaska's last three victories, scored shorthanded off the rush, assisted by Mike Scott, to cap the four-goal outburst with 6:12 remaining in the period.

Trailing 4-0 entering the third period, Long Beach (8-9-2) sliced its deficit in half with two goals 48 seconds apart, beginning with Chris Kenady's power play tally at 9:35. But shortly after Mac Faulkner brought the Ice Dogs within 4-2, the home team took back-to-back penalties, and Peter Metcalf put the game away for Alaska (13-3-2) by scoring his sixth of the year on the second opportunity with 2:48 left in regulation.

Chris Beckford-Tseu remained unbeaten in net for the Aces, finishing with 27 saves to improve his personal mark to 7-0-1. Alaska finishes up a stretch of five games in six nights tomorrow at the Save-Mart Center against the Pacific Division-leading Fresno Falcons at 4:00 p.m. ADT.

All Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
