PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Bakersfield Condors and Pensacola Ice Pilots combined for 91 shots and Mike Hofstrand tied the game nine seconds into the third period, but the Ice Pilots' Matt Carmichael outlasted Ryan Cyr in a goaltending duel to hand the Condors a 2-1 loss at the Pensacola Civic Center.

The Condors came out of the locker room on a fiery offensive charge, tying their season-high of 23 shots on net to pressure Carmichael, who stopped all 23 shots he saw in the period. Cyr likewise held the Ice Pilots off the board through the first, making seven saves.

At the game's midway mark, Adam Courchaine took a short pass from Luke Fulghum in the neutral zone and initiated a two-on-one on the left wing. Courchaine found an open shot in the slot and wrested the puck over the left shoulder of Cyr to give Pensacola a 1-0 lead at 10:01 of the second period. The Ice Pilots outshot the Condors 22-7 in the second, nearly mirroring the Condors' feat from the first.

Bakersfield tied the game on an improbable bounce in the opening seconds of the third period. Matt Carmichael stepped behind the Ice Pilots net to set up the puck, but lost it between his skates. Mike Hofstrand came behind the et and cherry-picked the puck away, sliding it inside the post and knotting the game at 1-1 with 19:51 left in the game.

The deciding goal would come eleven minutes later as Adam Courchaine put a pass from the top of the near circle right at the feet of Brandon Cook, who sent a one timer over Cyr's blocker and into the net for the eventual game-winner, putting the Ice Pilots up for good by a score of 2-1 with 8:57 left in the game.

Matt Carmichael picked up the victory in his ECHL debut, stopping 47 of 48 Condor shots. Ryan Cyr was credit with the loss despite an impressive 41 save night on 43 shots by Pensacola.

Other notes: The start of the game was delayed after Pensacola's two goaltenders, Frederic Cloutier and Todd Ford, were called up to the AHL at the same time. Carmichael drove from Huntsville, Alabama and arrived at the arena during pre-game skate. The Condors and Ice Pilots combined for a total of 91 shots, the most in a Condors game this season.

The Condors and Pilots meet tomorrow night for the final game of a three-game series at the Pensacola Civic Center. Bakersfield returns home on Friday, December 9th to host the Stockton Thunder on Nip & Puck Night.
