Knights Split Saturday's Doubleheader with Bats

(LOUISVILLE, KY) - Catcher Sebastián Rivero and first baseman Nate Mondou drove home three runs each to lead the Charlotte Knights to an 8-5 win over the Louisville Bats in game two of Saturday's doubleheader from Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, KY. The Knights dropped the first game of the twin bill by a score of 4-2.

The Knights put forth a solid effort in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, scoring eight runs on seven hits. Rivero drove home the first Charlotte run in the second inning on an RBI double. One inning later, Rivero singled home two more runs to give the Knights a 3-1 lead. Rivero later scored in the inning to make it a 4-1 ballgame. For the game, Rivero had two hits and three RBIs to help lead the Knights to the team's first win of the six-game series.

In the fifth inning, infielder Yolbert Sánchez drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Knights a 5-1 lead at that point. For Sánchez, it marked the seventh consecutive game in which he recorded an RBI. The fifth inning was highlighted by a big three-run double from Mondou. He finished the game 1-for-4 with the three RBIs.

RHP Lane Ramsey (2-2, 3.52) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the game two win. LHP Garrett Davila, a native of nearby Belmont, NC, started game two of the doubleheader and allowed just one run on three hits over four innings of work.

The Knights dropped the first game of the doubleheader and Charlotte RHP Jesse Scholtens (1-1, 5.52) was the hard-luck losing pitcher in game one. Scholtens pitched into the sixth inning and was charged with three runs allowed on five hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He struck out eight batters and walked two batters.

Infielders Zach Remillard and Yolbert Sánchez led the way for the Knights in game one with an RBI single each in the game. In all, the Knights managed a total of six hits in the first game. Louisville, who also tallied six hits, received home runs from Matt Reynolds and Henry Ramos. The Bats trailed 2-0 after the first three innings, but went on to score four unanswered runs over the final three innings of game one.

The Knights will conclude the six-game series on Sunday afternoon with the finale of the series against the Louisville Bats (Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) from Louisville Slugger Field.
