Charlotte Knights News Release
(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - The Charlotte Knights dropped game three of a six-game road series against the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 2-1 on Thursday night from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. Gwinnett RHP Allan Winans (5-3, 2.66) tossed a complete game to earn the win for the Stripers.
Catcher Sebastián Rivero launched a solo home run in the top of the third inning to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The home run was the first of the season for Rivero and it proved to be Charlotte's only run of the game. The Knights tallied just four hits in the game against Winans, who tossed a nine-inning gem.
The Stripers scored both runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gwinnett DH Joe Dunand hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The home run was his seventh of the season. The Stripers took a 2-1 lead in the inning thanks to an RBI triple from Hoy Park. That was all of the scoring on Thursday night.
LHP Nate Fisher (4-7, 4.91) started the game for the Knights and was saddled with the loss after he allowed two runs on four hits over six innings pitched. Relievers Bryan Shaw (1.0 IP) and Nick Padilla (1.0 IP) held the Stripers scoreless the rest of the way.
Charlotte shortstop Zach Remillard had two of the team's four hits on the night. Thursday's game lasted just one hour and fifty-six minutes.
The Knights will continue the six-game road series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Friday night. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch on Friday is set for 7:05 p.m. from Coolray Field.
