Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Syracuse, New York - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (29-28) could never kick the offense in to high gear in a 5-2 loss to the Syracuse Mets (23-35) on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The Mets opened the scoring in the last of the second inning. Back-to-back two out walks to Michael Perez and Carlos Cortes put two on for Syracuse. Danny Mendick capitalized with a three-run homer to put Syracuse ahead 3-0.
In the third, Tyler White singled to start the frame and DJ Stewart followed with a two-run blast, extending the Syracuse lead to 5-0.
The IronPigs finally got on the board in the sixth. Scott Kingery walked and Weston Wilson then singled him to third to open the frame. After a strikeout, Wilson stole second and one out later, Darick Hall guided a single through the right side to plate both runners and make it 5-2.
The IronPigs couldn't muster up anything after Hall's hit, as the final 10 IronPigs batters were retired by Mets pitching.
Joey Lucceshi (4-1) picked up the win for the Mets by going seven frames, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks, striking out nine. Josh Walker (S, 1) pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two, for the save.
Noah Skirrow (5-2) absorbed the loss for the IronPigs, allowing five runs in 4.1 innings on six hits and five walks, striking out three.
The IronPigs and Mets continue their series on Friday, June 9 at 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
