ST. PAUL, MN - For the last couple of weeks it was the St. Paul Saints putting up crooked numbers and clobbering their opponents. On Thursday night in game one of a doubleheader, the Saints were on the receiving end losing 13-3 to the Iowa Cubs at CHS Field. The loss drops the Saints to 34-24.

The I-Cubs came out swinging in the first inning. Yonathan Perlaza led off with a double to right-center. He advanced to third on a single to right by Nick Madrigal. Jared Young then hit a grounder to second that was booted by Edouard Julien allowing Perlaza to score and sending Madrigal to second as the I-Cubs took a 1-0 lead. After a double play ground out moved Madrigal to third, David Bote made it 2-0 with a single into right.

The Saints responded in their half of the first as Andrew Stevenson led off with a walk, he moved to second on a groundout, and scored on a single to left by Julien cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The I-Cubs continued to pour it on in the second as the first four hitters reached. Chase Strumpf was hit by a pitch and back-to-back singles by Jake Slaughter and Dom Nuñez loaded the bases. Perlaza singled to right driving home a pair increasing the lead to 4-1. After a fielder's choice put runners at the corners, Young made it 5-1 with an RBI single to right.

For the third consecutive inning the I-Cubs grabbed more runs. Back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning by Bote and Darius Hill made it 6-1. Strumpf followed with a single into right-center giving the I-Cubs a 7-1 lead.

Just like they did in the three previous innings, the I-Cubs got the leadoff man aboard in the fourth as Madrigal walked. After a single to center by Young put runners at the corners, Randy Dobnak came out of the game for Jose Bravo. After back-to-back strikeouts, Hill grounded an RBI single into center increasing the lead to 8-1. Strumpf then drilled a three-run homer to left making it 11-1.

For the first time in his career Jair Camargo homered in three straight games, hitting a solo shot to center to leadoff the bottom of the fourth making it 11-2.

The I-Cubs grabbed that run back plus one in the fifth as Madrigal tripled and Young followed with a two-run homer to right making it 13-2.

The Saints added their final run in the ninth when they loaded the bases and Camargo dropped an RBI single into right. He finished the game 2-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored.
