Knights Drop Tuesday's Opener 10-2

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - The Charlotte Knights opened up a six-game road series against the Gwinnett Stripers with a 10-2 loss from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA on Tuesday night. In the loss, catcher Carlos Pérez launched his team-leading seventh home run of the season. His two-run shot was Charlotte's only runs of the evening.

Pérez connected on a two-run blast in the top of the fourth inning, his third home run in as many games. The home run also extended his hit streak to six consecutive games. Second baseman Lenyn Sosa, who was optioned to Charlotte from the Chicago, singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. In all, the Knights tallied just four hits in Tuesday's game.

RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon (0-2, 5.91) started Tuesday's opener for Charlotte and was charged with the loss after he allowed three runs and six walks over 1.1 innings pitched. RHP Alex Mateo allowed five more runs in his Charlotte debut. Mateo, who was promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham before the game, walked three and allowed two hits. The Stripers also added runs against RHP Declan Cronin (one run) and RHP A.J. Alexy (one run).

Gwinnett starter Beau Burrows earned the win after he gave up just two runs and pitched into the sixth inning. He allowed the two-run homer to Pérez, but was sharp over 5.2 innings pitched. Eli White and Nick Solak led the way offensively for the Stripers. White had three hits and two RBI, while Solak had two hits and two RBI.

The Knights will continue the six-game road trip against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Wednesday from Gwinnett County Georgia.
