South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Nate Kiser has been named one of the PaySource USA ECHL Plus Performers of the Month for December after finishing with a plus-minus rating of +12 in nine games played.
Kiser, who returned to action on Dec. 7 after missing 14 games due to injury suffered on Oct. 28, currently leads the Stingrays with a +17 plus-minus rating, which is tied for fifth in the ECHL. In 15 games for South Carolina in 2007-08, the fifth-year pro has registered eight points (1g, 7a) and 60 penalty minutes.
In his fourth season with the Stingrays, Kiser, 25, led South Carolina with a +14 plus-minus rating and a career-high 222 penalty minutes in 2006-07. In 64 games last season, the Southgate, Mich. native collected five goals and 15 assists for a career-high 20 points. Over his professional career, Kiser has posted 61 points (12g, 49a) and 761 penalty minutes in 257 career games with South Carolina and Dayton in the ECHL, and Syracuse, Portland and Albany of the AHL.
Originally a 5th round choice (160th overall) of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound defenseman played four years with the OHL's Plymouth Whalers prior to turning pro, amassing 41 points (13g, 28a) and 473 penalty minutes in 137 junior games.
Kiser becomes the second player to earn this honor after Travis Morin was named the PaySource USA ECHL Plus Performer of October.
