Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Wheeling, WV - The Johnstown Chiefs won their third straight game against the Wheeling Nailers, winning by a score of 3-2 in overtime on Friday night.

Wheeling's two goals came on the power play in the first period, both generated by point shots. Kevin Croxton would score first at 4:15 of the opening period when he tipped in a shot from Seamus Young. Chris Snavely would provide the second marker when he put a slap shot from the far point by Ryan Nie.

Ryan Garlock ended a nine-game goalless drought when he scored the Chiefs' first goal at 18:49 of the first. Mike Cohen dished a no-look pass to Garlock from behind the net, and Garlock quickly slid it by Martin Houle. Randy Rowe added the other assist.

The second period belonged to the goaltenders as neither Nie or Houle would allow a goal. Johnstown managed 8 shots on Houle, while Nie kept all 10 Wheeling shots, including three shorthanded opportunities, out of the net.

The Chiefs then found some of that one-goal game magic that was so prevalent during the early portion of the season. Rob Drummond picked up the Chiefs' lone power play goal when he whipped a wrist shot over Houle's glove hand at 5:00 of the third.

The final fifteen minutes of the third period would go scoreless and saw the Chiefs kill off two consecutive Wheeling power plays within the last seven minutes. Randy Rowe would put the finishing touches on the overtime win with a slap shot from the left wing that got by Houle's glove hand as well.

Ryan Nie made 28 saves in picking up his ninth win of the season, and Johnstown's power play finished the night 1-for-6 thanks to Drummond's goal.
