Cyclones watch one streak end, extend another

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati Cyclones forward Jason Deitsch's goal with 1:27 remaining tied the game at 3-3, but it was three shootout goals that gave Reading a 4-3 shootout win on Friday night.

With both teams playing severely shorthanded due to injuries and callups, the teams played a scoreless opening frame. The Cyclones played with only three defensemen and three forwards filling in, while Reading outright skated three players short. In the opening period, the Cyclones outshot the Royals, 9-5.

Cincinnati opened the scoring 1:10 into the second period when rookie David Desharnais netted his twelfth goal of the season with an assist from Travis Fuller. The Royals leveled the scores at 1-1, when rookie Charlie Kronschnabel picked up his sixth goal of the season. Reading grabbed its first lead of the night at 16:00, as Dany Roussin fired home his eighth goal of the season from the top of the circle on the left side. The Royals outshot Cincinnati, 20-6, in the second frame.

In the third period, Reading opened the lead to two goals when Brett Hemmingway notched his eighth goal 10:55 into the stanza. Cincinnati closed the gap at 14:55, when rookie Thomas Beauregard picked up his 13th goal from James Sixsmith and Chad Starling. Cincinnati native, Jason Deitsch, appearing in his first game of the season, tied the game at 3-3 when he lit the lamp at 18:33. Travis Fuller and Jean-Michel Daoust added the helpers.

The Cyclones drop to 24-6-3 on the season-co-leaders of the North Division with Elmira, while Reading improves to 18-11-3.

Cincinnati is now 19-3-3 in its last 25 games.

The Cyclones remain 18 games above .500 for the first time in team history. The club was 16 games over .500 on March 19, 1995-when the team was located in Louisville-and had a 38-22-7 mark. The 23 wins are the most the team has ever had prior to the All-Star .

The Cyclones are next in action at U.S. Bank Arena tomorrow night against Reading again at 7:30pm. NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth will be the special guest.
