Trenton Devils News Release
BILOXI, MS (January 4, 2008) - In what was billed as a big goaltender showdown, Dave Caruso and Ryan Munce did not disappoint, coming up big and turning aside multiple quality scoring chances. But the Devils would be unable to solve Munce's impossible maneuvers, dropping their first-ever game against Mississippi 4-1.
For the second straight game Trenton fell into an early hole only to dig themselves out, when Lance Monych score 2:47 into the first frame. The Devils would rally and find an answer off the stick of one of their unsung heroes, Andrew Leach.
Leach got the Devils on the board 14:11 into the first, besting netminder Ryan Munce with a banger in the crease. Bill LeClerc fired a shot from the bottom point at the goalie, who made the initial stop but found Matt Radoslovich, Zach Tarkir, and Leach in position to hack away at it. Leach would succeed in pushing the rubber past the embattled netminder, while Tarkir and Radoslovich were credited with assists.
The Devils had several more quality scoring chances in the second and third frames, but Munce somehow turned aside several sure-fire goals. Sprawled out on no fewer than there occasions, the Sea Wolves netminder had just enough length to deny the Devils any further tallies.
Pat Oliveto would put the game away for Mississippi, scoring on rockets from the point in both the first and second periods, while Kyle McAllister added the empty netter to finish the game.
Munce would make 29 saves on 30 shots for the win; Caruso stopped 27 of 30 shots but took the tough loss.
The Trenton Devils head back to the Hangar, facing the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Pensacola Civic Center January 5th at 7:05pm CST (8:05pm EST). Tune into WTSR 91.3 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
