Kennedy, Siani Push Bats to 2-1 Win Over Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC - A quality pitching performance by Brett Kennedy and the bullpen combined with the clutch hitting of Michael Siani push the Louisville Bats (38-31) 2-1 over the Charlotte Knights (33-38) on Thursday for their first win of the series.
With the score tied at one heading into the ninth inning, Henry Ramos and TJ Hopkins both reached base safely with two outs, enabling Michael Siani to put the Bats in front for good with an RBI single to cap off his two-hit night at the plate.

Siani also gave the Bats a 1-0 lead earlier in the game, leading off the top of the third with a single and eventually trotting home when a balk was called with the bases loaded after Nick Martini and Jose Barrero both drew two-out walks.
The Knights evened the score in the sixth inning and both offenses remained quiet until the Bats broke through once again in the ninth to regain the lead.
Bats starter Brett Kennedy (2-2, 3.05) turned in 7.0 quality innings, allowing just a single run on six hits, issuing a lone walk, and striking out three on the night. The effort is good for Kennedy's second quality start of the season.
The bottom half of the ninth saw three of the first four hitters of the inning for Charlotte get on to load the bases with only one out, but Ricky Karcher (2-2, 8.17 ERA) induced a game-ending double play to secure his second save of the season.
Shea Spitzbarth (1-0, 2.08 ERA) earned his first win of the year after tossing a clean eighth inning in relief.
Tomorrow will feature a doubleheader between the Bats and the Knights after Wednesday's rainout with the first game set to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET while the second game will start shortly after at a time to be determined.
The pitching matchup in the first contest of the day will see RHP Michael Mariot (2-0, 2.08 ERA) of Louisville face off against LHP John Parke (1-3, 7.43 ERA), while RHP Alec Mills (0-0, 8.10) is set to take the mound for the Bats in the second game against Charlotte lefty Sammy Peralta (3-2, 4.58 ERA).
