DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (41-29) moved to a season-high 12 games over .500, beating the Memphis Redbirds (38-34) by a score of 9-5, Thursday at Principal Park.

Luken Baker started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double to give Memphis a 2-0 lead. Their lead wouldn't last long, as Iowa scored four runs of their own in the first on singles from David Bote, Jared Young and Darius Hill.

Up 4-2, Bote padded the lead with another RBI single in the second and Yonathan Perlaza got in on the fun with a two-run single in the third, moving Iowa's lead to 7-2. Riley Thompson settled in with the lead, allowing just the two earned runs.

The righty surrendered just three hits and worked around six walks with four strikeouts over his 4.2 innings pitched. Iowa grew their lead to 8-2 in the fifth on a double from Dom Nuñez.

Memphis got another two runs in the sixth on a two-run home run from Matt Koperniak, but the I-Cubs answered with a solo home run of their own by Chase Strumpf. Taylor Motter clubbed an RBI double in the top of the ninth, but that is all they would score, as Iowa won their second straight game.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Yonathan Perlaza raised his batting average to .298 this year, going 3-for-5 with a run, a double and two runs batted in. The three-hit game extended his on-base streak to 30 games.
