Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Reading, PA- Receiving three-point nights from Yanni Gourde and Eric Kattelus, the Kalamazoo Wings extended their season-high road winning streak to six games with a 4-1 victory Friday night against the Reading Royals at the Santander Arena.

Similar to their previous encounter back on November 15th at Wings Stadium, neither team was able to score in the first period.

Striking quickly in the second period, Kattelus recorded his 10th goal of the season 15 seconds into the period to give the K-Wings the 1-0 advantage. The goal tied Kattelus with Gourde for the team-lead in goals scored.

Pressuring in the K-Wings zone, Dustin Gazley (8th) tied the game at 1-1 by finding the puck along the boards near the left circle and skating back to the crease 8:25 in the stanza.

Reclaiming the lead off of a face-off seven minutes later, Sam Ftorek notched his fifth-goal of the campaign with a slap shot from the point. The goal was Ftorek's first non power-play goal of the season.

Pulling away in the third period, Gourde regained the team-lead in goals scored recording his 12th of the season with a power-play strike 7:25 into the period to give the K-Wings. Ftorek and Elgin Reid earned assists on the tally. The assist from Reid gives the defenseman a three-game point streak.

Matt Caria (4th) closed out the scoring midway in the period when his centering pass deflected off of a Royals defenseman and past former K-Wing goaltender Riley Gill.

Jordan Binnington (9-5-0-0) made 33 saves to earn his third straight victory. Binnington has recorded wins in five out of his last six games.

Kalamazoo and Reading will square off again tomorrow, Saturday, December 28th with a 7:05 p.m. encounter at the Santander Arena.

The K-Wings will return home on Tuesday, December 31st for a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7 p.m. during the 12th Annual New Year's Eve Bash, presented by COOL 101 and WWMT News Channel 3.
