Josh McFadden Seals Monumental Comeback over Evansville, 7-6 in OT

EVANSVILLE, Indiana - Josh McFadden's first game-winning goal of the season came just 34 seconds into overtime to lift the Cincinnati Cyclones (17-8-1-1) past the Evansville IceMen (14-7-2-3) by a 7-6 final score in front of 5,746 at Ford Center on Friday night.

The IceMen struck first just 7:47 into the game when Dustin Hopfner snapped in his first goal of the season past Joe Howe (W, 26 saves, 3-0-1) to make it 1-0. Not even two minutes later, though, Cincinnati's Adam Brace got to a loose puck in the Evansville slot and backhanded it past Garrett Bartus (OTL, 29 saves, 3-4-2-1) to knot things at one. Unfortunately with just 2:33 left in the frame, Loren Barron's pass from behind the net banked off a skate in front and deflected over Howe and into the net to give the hometown club a 2-1 edge after 20 minutes.

The middle period proved to be an offensive barrage, as a total of six goals were scored between the two clubs. The IceMen got two lamplighters in the first 1:43 of the stanza from Tom Zanoski and Mike Seidel to make it a 4-1 contest. However, the Cyclones mounted a remarkable comeback by rattling off four unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes to regain a 5-4 lead. First, Anthony Luciani sniped home his sixth of the season at 4:47 followed by a shorthanded strike from Trevor Lewis. Then, at 12:51, Jack Combs sent a short-side wrist shot past Bartus to tie it. Just 27 seconds later, Jonathan Hazen gave the Cyclones their first lead of the game - a one-goal advantage they took into the second intermission.

The tides turned again early in the third period as Peter Sakaris and Jeremy Langlois each scored goals for Evansville just three minutes apart to rally back into a 6-5 lead. But just as they had before, the Cyclones responded quickly; during a Cincinnati power play, Logan Shaw fed a tape-to-tape pass across the middle to Combs, who slammed in the one-timer for his second goal of the night - tying the game at six. And after Dan Eves was denied on a penalty shot with just two seconds remaining in regulation, the contest was forced into overtime.

Nearly immediately off the opening face-off, the Cyclones gained possession of the puck as Josh McFadden throttled through the neutral zone. Shortly after reaching the high slot, McFadden sent a laser-accurate wrist shot past Bartus' glove to seal a 7-6 victory for Cincinnati. It was the eighth time this season that they've won a game that has gone beyond 60 minutes.

Cincinnati will round out its quick weekend road trip tomorrow night in Toledo with a 7:15pm opening face-off against the Walleye. Fans can hear coverage of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (CyclonesHockey.com, America One, Cyclones Mobile App) beginning at 6:45pm.
