Jakaitis' Strong Play Leads Stingrays over Road Warriors 3-2

Greenville, S.C. - Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 40 saves to help the South Carolina Stingrays (20-5-1-2) defeat the Greenville Road Warriors (12-14-1-1) 3-2 at the Bon Secours wellness Arena Friday night.

Stingrays defenseman Luka Vidmar broke open the scoring with his first goal of the season at 11:08 of the first period ripping a shot under glove of Road Warriors goaltender Connor Knapp (L, 28 saves on 31 shots) from the left-wing circle. Forwards Paul Rodrigues and Peter Boyd added assists.

Boyd made it a two-goal Stingrays advantage 44 seconds into the third period with help from Rodrigues and forward Patrick Gaul. The Road Warriors jumped on the board with an unassisted power-play goal from forward Jordie Johnston at 7:57 beating Jakaitis under the glove from the right-wing circle.

Forward Lindsay Sparks made it 3-1 for the Stingrays at 15:22 knocking in a rebound off the right pad of Knapp. Forward Wayne Simpson grabbed the lone assist. Road Warriors forward Justin Vaive pulled the game back within one at 16:56. With Knapp pulled for the extra skater, Greenville generated numerous chances in front of Jakaitis, but could not find tying tally. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-2 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 1-for-4.
