December 27, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Loveland, Colorado - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Colorado Eagles 2-1 Friday night at Budweiser Events Center as Danick Paquette broke a 1-1 third period tie with a power-play goal with 7:58 remaining.
Goaltender Aaron Dell stopped 25 of 26 shots in his return to the Utah lineup after over a month in the AHL with the Los Angeles Kings affiliate in Manchester. The win improves Dell to 3-1 with the Grizzlies and his third-straight win.
Utah came out of the gate with a solid first period, outshooting Colorado 11-5 in the first and drawing four of five power-plays.
In the second period, Utah's penalty-kill was forced to step up as they went shorthanded four times in a seven minute and 12 second stretch. Colorado did break the scoreless tie with a five-on-three power-play goal with 10:38 left in the second scored by leading scorer Kevin Ulanski.
Utah tied the game 7:05 later on a five-on-three goal by Jamie MacQueen on his team leading ninth goal of the year. Pat O'Keefe and Mathieu Aubin picked up assists after David Vallorani was just denied on a one-timer following a timeout called by Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham.
The Utah game-winning goal came with three seconds left on a third period power-play as Patrick O'Keefe battled to hold a puck in front of the line. Vallorani then fired it towards the net and Paquette hammered in a shot on a Vinny Scarsella rebound.
As Colorado turned things on late, Danick Paquette then took a high stick with 4:58 left and Utah went on the power-play for the next two minutes. The Grizzlies and Dell were able to keep Colorado off of the board the rest of the way to earn the victory.
The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center Saturday and Tuesday, December 31 at 6 p.m. Saturday is a post-game skate with the Grizzlies. For New Year's Eve, fans can take advantage of $2 Hot Dogs, $2 Fries, $2 Soft Drinks and $2 Draft Beers.
