
Preview: Gladiators Host Nailers Tonight at 6:05 p.m.

Duluth, Ga. - The Gladiators will play their final home game of the 2013 calendar year at 6:05 tonight when they play the Wheeling Nailers for the first time this season. This will also be the first game Gwinnett playsagainst an opponent from the three team Atlantic Division. The Nailers enter the night in first in the Atlantic with a 14-7-0-5 record (33 points). The two teams faced each other twice last season with the Gladiators taking both contests.
Last Night:
Making his home debut, Brad Phillips stood tall in net, stopping 22 of the 24 shots he faced in his win against one of the best teams in the league, the South Carolina Stingrays. The Gladiators, who werefacing the Stingrays for the third straight game, held a lead after each period - 1-0 after the first, 2-1 after the second - and came out on top, 3-2.
Antoine Corbin led the way for Gwinnett by scoring the go-ahead goal at 5:35 of the second on a power play snipe, and then scoring the game-winning goal with just over seven minutes left in the game. Kurtis Bartliff extended his team lead in goals with his tenth early in thefirst period. He also registered an assist on Corbin's first goal.
Glads Notes:
Special Special Teams: Over their last 19 games, the Gladiators have held the opposition to 4-for-55 on the power play, and 1-for-19 in their past seven games. On the season Gwinnett ranks 8th in the ECHL, killing off 87.4% of opposing power plays. On the man advantage, Gwinnett is 5-for-25 (20%) over its prior seven games.
So Hot Right Now...: Defenseman Antoine Corbin added two goals to the two assists he had entering last night's game. He has four points in five games with Gwinnett ... defenseman Rob Kwiet has three assists in five games since being acquired via trade from the Fort Wayne Komets ... Daniel Spivak has only finished as a minus in four of 22 games played this season.
Fantastic Firsts: Rookie forward Jeremie Malouin scored his first pro goal Saturday in South Carolina ... Brian Elser picked up his first point as a Gladiator, an assist, on that same play ...
Milestones: Bobby Hughes is five games away from 100 in the ECHL ... Rob Kwiet is four games from 275 as a pro ... Brett Lyon is one game from 75 as a pro ... Kirill Tulupov is two games away from 75 as a professional.
Snippets: The Gladiators are 8-5-0-2 Monday through Friday (6-0 on Mon-Thur), but 0-12 on Saturday and Sunday ... Gwinnett is 7-6 when scoring first, but 1-11-0-2 when the opposition scores first ... when scoring three or more goals the Gladiators are 8-3-0-1, but when scoring two or fewer goals the Glads are 0-14-0-1.
