Johnson Named Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that rookie Josh Johnson is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 24-30. Johnson also won the award for Nov. 5-11 and becomes the first two-time winner this season.

The Esko, Minn. native was 2-0-0 with a 1.92 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage as the Stingrays went 2-0-0 to extend their winning streak to 12 games which is a team record and an ECHL season high. The 12 straight wins tie the fourth-longest streak in ECHL history.

The 6-foot and 170-pound Johnson made 35 saves in a 5-2 win at Charlotte on Dec. 29 and then after turning aside 23 shots in regulation and overtime, stopped 12 of 13 shooters in a 3-2 shootout win against Gwinnett on Dec. 30.

The 23 year old has won his last six starts during which he has a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.48 and a save percentage of .948. He is ninth in the ECHL with 10 wins and has a 2.73 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 16 games.

He played four seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth where he was 22-20-4 with three shutouts, a 2.71 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in 51 games from 2003-07.
