Happy New Year's Letter from Condors Owner Jonathan Fleisig
January 2, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Dear Condors Season Ticket Holders and Fans,
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope that your Holiday season was wonderful.
I am proud of this organization and the accomplishments we achieved together in 2007 and throughout our 10 year history. This team helped bring in nearly half a million dollars last year alone in goods, services and cash for local non-profits and schools. Winning the Beautiful Bakersfield Award for a third time is something that we share between the front office, the team and the fans as well - a strong statement on the impact of this team in the city of Bakersfield. The 2006-07 season was exciting as well, setting team records with 41 wins and 94 points, and a playoff run that took us into the second round. And despite the last three months of the calendar with the team's early struggles, 2007 was a banner year in Condorstown.
As a season ticket holder myself with other teams, I feel like I have a unique perspective on this year's team and their troubles thus far. I have season tickets with the New York Rangers, and I've had my Knicks season tickets for 20 years. The Rangers habitually miss the playoffs (and this after going over 40 years without a Cup) and the Knicks last won a title in 1973. They are still my teams, though, and that's why it hits me hard.
This is especially true with my beloved Knicks. I believe in integrity first and foremost. I don't agree with direction of the ownership, and I refuse to go to see them as long as Isaiah Thomas is the head coach - I give away or donate my tickets every game. Feeling as I do, the one thing that I have always tried to do with my own team is fill the organization with people who have integrity and character, and truly care about this team's success and the fans fulfillment.
Vince Lombardi once said, "If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?" All fans want their teams to win every game they play. Committed organizations and players want to win every game they play.
The Condors have achieved two of the three pledges that I made when I took over. We are huge in the community, we are generous with charities, and the only major goal that eludes us is the most difficult - a championship. The coaching staff has tried hard to make changes; not all of them have worked, but it doesn't mean that we're not going to continue to try and to work towards our goals. You are a huge part of that and it is the fan support that makes all of our efforts worthwhile. We truly thank you for your commitment and to repay you, know that we are committed too.
So as we look forward to 2008 and all that's to come, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year filled with plenty of Condors victories!
