January 2, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Olivier Filion has been named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for December 24-31, scoring twice in back-to-back games against Utah.

The 25-year-old Filion earned his first ever ECHL honor by virtue of his two goals and an assist in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Grizzlies December 28, and another pair of goals in a 7-4 win over Utah the next night. He has three two-goal games and 11 on the year after registering four two-goal games and the only hat trick of his five-year pro career last season. Now in his fourth year with the Aces, Filion led the team with a career-high 29 goals (bettering by one his total over his first three pro seasons) and ranked second with 68 points in 2006-07. He had six goals and six assists in 15 playoff games last year and owns a pair of overtime game-winners in the postseason, against Las Vegas in 2006 and Trenton in 2005.

Filion had an assist as Alaska suffered its first at home since November 3 on New Year's Eve, dropping a 5-2 decision to Utah and falling into a second-place tie with Idaho, pending the Steelheads game in Phoenix tonight. Speaking of the Roadrunners (currently 10-15-5), the Aces will see them for the first time this season Friday and Saturday at Sullivan Arena, with both games scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start.

Alaska stands a perfect 6-0 against Phoenix at home and 11-1-1 overall. The Aces have out-scored the 'Runners 32-8 in six games that have been played in Anchorage. Alaska, five points out of the West Division lead at 17-10-3 overall, will practice tomorrow and Friday at 10:00 a.m. in preparation for the two-game set. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.

On behalf of Filion, a case of pucks will be donated to Anchorage youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 18,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
