January 2, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones learned this afternoon that Head Coach Chuck Weber has been selected as one of the coaches for the American Conference at the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL's All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light, which will be played Wednesday, January 23 at 10pm at Stockton Arena. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of both the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Weber, 34, has directed the Cyclones to a 24-6-2 record and a first place standing in the North Division of the ECHL this season. Chuck has the team riding a club-record eight game winning streak and has already put together two other seven game unbeaten stretches (6-0-1) this season.
The Cyclones average an ECHL-high 4.19 goals per game and are limiting the opposition to a league-low 2.22 goals per contest. So far in 2007-08, Weber has had fourteen players move up to American Hockey League (AHL) clubs, playing in a total of 95 games.
Weber's rookie season with the Cyclones saw him direct the club to a 37-29-6 record, an upset sweep of Toledo in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs and force a seventh game with Dayton for the North Division championship. In two seasons as Cincinnati's mentor, Chuck's career coaching slate stands at 61-35-8 (.625 winning percentage).
Before coming to Cincinnati Weber was assistant coach and director of hockey operations for Utah of the ECHL in 2005-06 after working as an assistant coach in Augusta from 2003-05 and in Trenton in 2001-02. He was a member of the coaching staff when Orlando won the International Hockey League championship in 2001 and was an assistant coach for Milwaukee in the American Hockey League in 2001-02. Weber played hockey and soccer at the University at Albany (N.Y.) and was team captain of the hockey team as a junior and as a senior. In his final season, he was voted to the All-Star Team and also selected "Sportsman of the Year". He was awarded his bachelor's degree in communications with minors in athletic training and business.
"It's quite an honor to be selected to an All-Star team," Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "To be recognized by your peers to this position a great thing. I look forward to representing the Cincinnati Cyclones organization and the entire Tri-State."
The Cincinnati Cyclones play a pair of games at U.S. Bank Arena this weekend (Friday and Saturday) against the Reading Royals. Face off both nights ts at 7:30pm.
