Condors down Wranglers to ring in New Year

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors put the finishing touches on 2007 with a strong victory over the National Conference-leading Las Vegas Wranglers on Sunday evening, and continue their four-game home stand this weekend on Friday and Saturday against the Idaho Steelheads.

The Condors are 8-17-5 on the season and are in 4th place in the Pacific Division. Bakersfield trails the third place Stockton Thunder by seven points in the Pacific Division, and are four points behind the eighth place Phoenix RoadRunners in the National Conference. The Condors and Thunder will also meet this weekend in Stockton on Sunday.

Tim Konsorada and Steven Later tallied goals for the Condors, but they came up just short in a 3-2 loss on the road against the RoadRunners. Yutaka Fukufuji was strong between the pipes, stopping 39 Phoenix shots in the game, including 31 through the first two periods.

Stockton 5 vs. CONDORS 4

The Condors rallied twice against visiting Stockton on Saturday, but the Thunder pushed back in front for good in the third and held on for a narrow victory. The Condors overcame 2-0 and 3-2 deficits in the contest, and held a 38-33 shot advantage in the game. Andrew Ianiero, Tim Konsorada, Mark Derlago and Reagan Leslie all scored for Bakersfield.

CONDORS 3 vs. Las Vegas 2

Evan Kotsopoulos snapped a 2-2 tie midway through the third period to carry the Condors to a 3-2 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers on Sunday. Kevin Truelson and Eric Sonnenberg scored first period tallies for the Condors, who claimed victory for the first time against the National Conference-leading Wranglers. Yutaka Fukufuji made 25 saves, including all 14 he faced in the third.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

C Tim Konsorada had a six-game point streak and five-game goal streak snapped on Sunday. He had six goals during the streak, pushing him to a new career high this season (18).

Konsorada leads the ECHL with three shorthanded goals and is fifth in the league with 18 goals.

Although the Condors are 3-3-0 in the last six games, all three of the losses were by only one goal.

LW Andrew Ianiero played his 211th game in a Condors jersey on Sunday, moving him past Jason Ralph into sixth place on the Condors all-time games list.

F Todd Griffith had his 10-game scoring streak snapped on Thursday. During the stretch he had 6g- 5a-11pts.

D David Kudelka returned to the Condors lineup on Saturday after being activated from 7-day IR.

G Yutaka Fukufuji has started six consecutive games for the Condors, and has appeared in nine straight, with two relief appearances. He improved to 7-7-0 overall on Sunday and 3-3-0 with a 3.01 GAA and .905 save percentage since Dec. 12.

D Steven Later skated in his 100th career ECHL game on Sunday.

The Condors play host to the Idaho Steelheads for back-to-back games at The Nest this week, starting Friday night with the My45 What U Didn't Get for Christmas giveaway. Doors open at 11 a.m., puck drops at noon.

Saturday will also be a Bright House Networks Family Day, during which all subscribers receive $7.00 admission per person by presenting the coupon available in your cable bill.

In addition, Saturday will be a Bright House Networks, Bakersfield Californian and Wells Fargo Bank Condors Kids Club Day, where all Kids Club members will receive free admission.

Saturday afternoon's game will be televised live on Bright House Networks Channel 21, and will be re- aired on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 4:30 p.m. Each televised game this season will be available to digital cable subscribers via Bakersfield On Demand (channel 300) beginning the Tuesday after the original air date.
