Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 1, 2008) - The Trenton Devils announced today that forwards Trevor Kell and Joe Rooney have been recalled by the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League. The call-up marks the first time either skater will appear on the AHL stage.
Kell, a 6-0, 185-pound right winger, most recently made headlines by scoring the Devils' first hat trick of the season. The native of Thunder Bay, ON scored all three Trenton goals in a bout at Elmira on December 15th, 2007, tying the game with each score. The 21-year old recently completed a streak of six goals in three contests, all of which were equalizers or go-ahead shots.
In his first professional season, Kell has skated in 30 games for Trenton, scoring eight goals and nine assists. His seventeen points give the Sarnia Sting (OHL) alum a tie for second place in team scoring.
Joe Rooney, 22, is also amongst Trenton's leading scorers, notching 16 points (6g, 10a) in just 23 games with the Devils. Rooney has impressed since coming back from the injured reserve two weeks ago, scoring two goals and two assists in five games upon his return.
Standing at 5-10 and weighing 170 pounds, the rookie Rooney returns to his home state; originally from Canton, MA, the forward played for Boston College the past four years. Last year with BC, he scored 42 points (16g, 26a) in 42 games.
Kell was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round (#131 overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft; Rooney is undrafted.
The Trenton Devils have seen a lot of player movement with their AHL affiliate; Kell and Rooney are the fifth and sixth players to be called up this year. Netminders Dave Caruso and Jason Smith, defensemen Sean Zimmerman and Zach Tarkir, and forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond have also skated for both squads this season. Zimmerman and Leblond remain with the 'AAA' franchise.
The Trenton Devils begin their two-week road trip with a tilt against the Pensacola Ice Pilots in Pensacola, FL on January 2, 2008 at 7:05pm. Full and partial season ticket plans for 2007-08 are available by calling (609) 599-9500.
