Bridgeport Islanders News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Dustin Jeffrey scored a goal and added two assists as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers won their second straight road game, defeating the Springfield Falcons 3-1 on Friday night at MassMutual Center.

Jeffrey scored his team-leading 20 th goal of the season midway through the third period to seal Bridgeport's first regulation win against the Falcons this season.

Bridgeport hopped out to the early lead just six minutes into the game. Jeffrey kicked the puck from his skate to his stick and found Carson McMillan on a 2-on-1 to give the Sound Tigers the 1-0 lead. It was McMillan's second goal of the season, with his first coming on March 7 against the Worcester Sharks.

The rest of the period saw plenty of penalties between the two squads, with fireworks coming for one of the newest Sound Tigers. In his Bridgeport debut, Mark Louis threw Dana Tyrell into the boards, which led to a fight between Louis and Springfield forward Corey Cowick.

Each team had a 5-on-3 advantage in the first period, but neither could capitalize. Bridgeport's two-man advantage was a full two minutes, but Springfield netminder Scott Munroe made several timely stops and the Falcons got key clears on the kill. The Falcons 5-on-3 carried over into the second period, but they were unable to convert as well

The Falcons tied the game halfway through the second frame. T.J. Tynan took a pass from Mike Hoeffel and fired a shot towards Kent Simpson's cage. The initial shot was blocked, but Tynan followed up on the rebound and wristed it into the Sound Tigers net to make it 1-1.

Bridgeport regained its one-goal lead early on in the closing stanza. Jeffrey won the face off back to Aaron Ness, who fed Ryan Pulock for the one-timer. Pulock put his lethal slap shot to use, blasting one past Munroe to make it 2-1. Pulock's 13 th goal on the year was his first since returning to the line-up from injury.

That was all the scoring the Sound Tigers would need, but Jeffrey added his insurance marker with 10:10 remaining in the game. Jeffrey circled around in the offensive zone before flicking a shot past Munroe to make it 3-1. Sebastian Collberg got the lone assist on Jeffrey's third goal with the Sound Tigers.

Kent Simpson stood tall in goal for the Sound Tigers and made the saves when Bridgeport needed him most. Simpson finished with 32 stops in all, receiving second star honors for his effort.

Despite the high number of penalties called in the first period, both teams were held without a power play goal. The Sound Tigers power play went 0-for-4, but the penalty kill went 7-for-7.

The Sound Tigers return home for a pair this weekend, starting tomorrow with their game against the Providence Bruins. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.

Notes: Pulock's goal was only his third even strength goal of the season...The win was the first regulation victory for the Sound Tigers against Springfield since February 15, 2014 (nine games) and the first win at the MassMutual Center since the same date...Kent Simpson's win was his first as a Sound Tiger.
