Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Grand Rapids, MI--Goalie Tom McCollum stopped 28 shots to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Admirals Friday.

The Admirals outshot the Griffins 29-27, but only managed to place one puck behind McCollum, who improved to 8-5-1 against the Ads in his career.

The game-winning goal was scored on a late third period power play. Griffins forward Andreas Athanasiou sped out of the Griffins zone on the left wing. He fired a slap shot from the top of the left circle that trickled through the legs of Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg and just across the goal line at 18:03 of the third period.

Hellberg finished with 24 saves.

Grand Rapids forward Kevin Porter added an empty-net goal with :49 remaining.

Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead at 4:43 of the first period. Pontus Aberg dumped the puck into the right wing corner of the Griffins zone. Austin Watson was able to force a turnover and drop the puck for Joe Pendenza who drove to the net. Pendenza's shot was popped into the air off goalie Tom McCollum but trickled into the net as it dropped to the ice. The goal was Pendenza's eighth of the season and Watson recorded the lone assist.

Grand Rapids tied the game at 18:22 of the first period. Martin Frk's slap shot from the bottom of the left circle finished a nice pass from Athanasiou. It was Frk's fourth goal of the season.

The game marked the end of Milwaukee's six-game road trip. The Admirals record on the trip was 1-4-1-0.

Milwaukee returns to the BMO Harris Bradley Center to host Texas Sat, Mar. 21 at 7pm.
