Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tonight at the MassMutual Center.

The Falcons now sit at 33-24-7-0 on the season and maintain a 5-1-1-0 lead in the eight-game season series against the Sound Tigers.

Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe turned aside 26 of 29 shots on goal, while his Sound Tigers counterpart, Kent Simpson, earned his first win, stopping 32 of 33. Springfield was unable to convert on seven power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit shut down all four Bridgeport man-advantages.

The Sound Tigers were first on the board with a two-on-one play at the 5:55 mark of the first twenty. Carson McMillan skated the puck into the zone and threw a pass over to Dustin Jeffrey. Jeffrey shot it back across the crease for McMillan to chip in. John Persson recorded a point with the secondary helper on the opening tally.

T.J. Tynan evened the score after the halfway mark of the second frame. Tynan powered a shot from the blue line that was blocked by Simpson. He followed it up and scored on the rebound to knot the teams at one. Mike Hoeffel and Sean Collins earned credit for the assists.

Bridgeport took back the lead in the third period. Just 3:57 in, Jeffrey won the face-off and kicked the puck back to Aaron Ness, who sauced it over to Ryan Pulock in the high slot. Pulock one-timed a shot past Munroe to build a one-goal lead for the Sound Tigers.

Later in the frame, Jeffrey wristed a shot from the right circle with the help of Sebastian Collberg to down the Falcons, 3-1.

The Falcons will stay at The Nest to host I-91 rivals Hartford Wolf Pack at the MassMutual Center on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
