IceCaps Nipped by Sharks

March 20, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps dropped a 3-1 decision to the Worcester Sharks Friday night at the DCU Center in their first of three games this weekend.

Bryan Lerg scored twice for Worcester and Aaron Dell stopped 24-of-25 shots.

JC Lipon scored the IceCaps' lone goal while Connor Hellebuyck made 18 saves in the loss.

Worcester got on the board first on a goal by Lerg as he converted a loose puck in front of Hellebuyck to make it 1-0.

Lerg struck again when he was sprung on a breakaway before making a nice move to the backhand and beating Hellebuyck up high for a 2-0 lead.

Late in the second, the IceCaps cut the lead in half on Lipon's fourth of the season. Will O'Neill's shot bounced to Ryan Olsen, who slipped a pass to Lipon in the slot and the sophomore winger buried it to make it 2-1.

St. John's appeared to tie it midway through the third as Olsen sniped a goal from the slot but the marker was waived off after Lipon was called for interference on the play.

With Hellebuyck on the bench for the extra attacker, Worcester's Rylan Schwartz added an empty-netter to seal the win.
