Crunch Shade IceCaps 3-2 in Game Three

April 26, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL) - St. John's IceCaps News Release

SYRACUSE, NY - The St. John's IceCaps rallied hard but couldn't complete the comeback as the Syracuse Crunch took game three with a 3-2 win at the Onondaga Country War Memorial Arena on Wednesday night.

The Crunch potted two first period markers to give the home team the lead. The IceCaps came out strong in the second with a power play marker from Zach Redmond. Charles Hudon and Nikita Scherbak picked up the helpers on Redmond's tally. Stefan Matteau potted the equalizer on a breakaway feed from Max Friberg and Brett Lernout just 28 seconds later.

Syracuse came back with a goal from Byron Froese late in the second to regain the lead, and after a scoreless third period, Froese's tally would stand as the game-winner.

Charlie Lindgren was strong in net for the IceCaps, turning aside 22-of-25 shots, while Crunch's netminder Mike McKenna stopped 26 shots for the win.

Syracuse now has a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Semifinal C heading into Friday's game.
