Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Iowa Cubs (45-43) rallied for a combined six runs in the ninth and tenth innings to steal game one from the Albuquerque Isotopes (48-40) 9-5. Ty Wright delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the tenth for Iowa. Isotopes Park was packed with 16,229 fans for the Fourth of July game, the highest attendance for a single game in Isotope's franchise history.
Castellanos (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, R, 2 BB, SB) collected the only multi-hit game for Albuquerque driving in three runs.
Matt Palmer went 6.2 innings allowing three runs of seven hits and exited with a 5-3 lead. The righty was touched up for two solo home runs including a blast to center in the fifth by Junior Lake.
Righty Javy Guerra stepped in for Palmer tossing 1.1 perfect innings. Right-hander Steve Ames allowed the tying runs to score in the ninth on a pinch-hit, two-run homer by Tim Torres. Red Patterson (4-3, 3.71) suffered the loss surrendering four tenth-inning runs, all unearned, on three hits.
The Isotopes tallied a run in each of the first three innings to leap out in front 3-0. Justin Sellers led off the second with a triple, his second of the season. Brian Barden drove him in on a sac-fly.
Centerfielder Matt Angle stole his 15th base of the season in the third. He ranks second on the Isotopes in stolen bases this year. Castellanos drove Angle in on his sixth double of the season.
Castellanos drove Angle in a second time with a two-run homer to center in the fifth extending Albuquerque's lead to 5-1. It was the first home run for the Isotopes in seven games, a season-high stretch without a long ball for Albuquerque.
Dee Gordon and Alex Castellanos both swiped two bases. Gordon now leads the league with 30 stolen bases on the season.
Casey Coleman (2-0, 2.70) earned the win for Iowa pitching two hitless innings while walking two.
